The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has granted the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) approval to prosecute former Senator Andy Uba over alleged involvement in a ₦400 million fraud scheme.
The case, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, accuses Uba and two others, Benjamin Etu and Hajiya Fatima, of conspiring in 2022 to defraud George Uboh.
The defendants allegedly promised to secure the position of Managing Director at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for anyone who could pay the sum of N400 million.

Initially, Crystal Uba was also named in the charge, but her name was later removed after the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) found no evidence linking her to the crime.
The amended two-count charge, dated March 2025 and marked FHC/ABJ/CR/538/2024, includes evidence such as documents and voice recordings submitted by the complainant, Mr Uboh.
The case was recently reassigned to Justice Mohammed Umar, following the suspension of the previous judge. The defendants are expected to take their plea on September 24, 2025.
Although Uba’s legal team claims that the matter has been settled through payment, the prosecution insists on continuing with the trial. The AGF, after reviewing the case file, determined that there is a prima facie case against the accused.
Uba is said to be receiving medical treatment abroad, according to his lawyer. However, the prosecution has questioned the absence of official documentation supporting this claim.
