Apple’s latest flagship, the iPhone 17 series, has recorded a strong start, outperforming its predecessor by 14% in early sales across China and the United States, according to new data from research firm Counterpoint.

In its report released on Monday, Counterpoint noted that sales of the base model iPhone 17 nearly doubled in China compared to the iPhone 16 during the same 10-day launch period.

Across both markets, the base model’s sales rose 31%, signaling strong consumer demand and renewed interest in Apple’s smartphone lineup.

“The base model iPhone 17 is very compelling to consumers, offering great value for money,” said Mengmeng Zhang, Senior Analyst at Counterpoint. “It comes with a better chip, improved display, higher base storage, and an upgraded selfie camera all at the same price as last year’s iPhone 16.”

Apple launched the iPhone 17 series globally, including in China, in September 2025, amid growing competition from Chinese smartphone makers and a recovering global smartphone market.

Analysts say the early sales boost could help Apple regain market share in China, where it has faced intense rivalry from brands like Huawei and Xiaomi in recent quarters.
