Resident Doctors Set for Indefinite Strike November 1

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) will begin an indefinite nationwide strike on November 1, 2025, following the Federal Government’s failure to meet its demands.

NARD President, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, announced this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the decision came after the 30-day ultimatum earlier issued to the government expired.

After a five-hour emergency meeting of the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) on Saturday, members voted unanimously to embark on the strike.

“The NEC has outlined minimum demands, strike monitoring directives, and ‘no work, no pay/no pay, no work’ resolutions needed for a successful action,” Dr. Suleiman stated.

He added that the strike would commence at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025, and continue until the government meets their demands.

The doctors are demanding payment of salary arrears, better working conditions, and implementation of past agreements with the Federal Government.

They insist that repeated delays and broken promises have worsened morale across the country’s hospitals.

So far, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has not responded to the latest strike notice.
