Education advocate Alex Onyia has called for an urgent investigation into alleged cases of misconduct at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in Anambra State, raising concerns over claims of extortion, intimidation and other criminal activities within the institution.
The allegations were disclosed in a statement shared on Onyia’s official X handle, where he accused the university of being linked to repeated complaints from students and members of the public.
Allegations of Abuse and Intimidation
According to the statement, the institution has allegedly been associated with cases involving sorting, sex-for-grades, extortion, intimidation, robbery, rape, killings and other forms of misconduct.
Onyia described the allegations as disturbing and called on the Anambra State Government to immediately set up an independent investigation panel to probe the claims.

The education advocate also alleged that the current Vice Chancellor of the university introduced an application reportedly requiring students to pay N15,000.
He further claimed that students who fail to make the payment are allegedly subjected to a N35,000 penalty.
“Students can’t continue to bear the brunt. Things have to change quickly,” part of the statement reads.
The latest allegations have sparked renewed concerns over accountability and student welfare in tertiary institutions, with growing calls for transparency and stricter oversight in university administration.
