Fubara Bows to Assembly, Recalls 1,000 Teachers Recruited in 2023

Fubara to Address Rivers Residents at 6:00 pm

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has yielded to mounting pressure from the State House of Assembly led by Martins Amaewhule following concerns raised about the condition of public schools in the state.

The Assembly, during its sitting last week Thursday, criticised the deteriorating state of primary and secondary schools, expressing dissatisfaction with what members described as worsening infrastructure and manpower shortages.

Governor Fubara, reacting on Monday, insisted that the decline in public education did not begin under his administration. But on Tuesday, he ordered the immediate recall of 1,000 teachers recruited in 2023.

The directive was contained in a public announcement issued by Sam Ogeh, Chairman of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB).

The statement read: “In fulfilment of his promise to address the manpower gap in public schools across Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, has approved the appointment of new teachers.

“As part of this initiative, His Excellency has directed the revalidation of the 1,000 teachers recruited in 2023.

“To this end, all affected teachers are to report to the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board for the revalidation exercise.

“All teachers recruited in 2023 are required to appear with their appointment and posting letters.”
