Police have arrested Aloy Ejimakor, lawyer to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, during a protest in Abuja on Monday.
Ejimakor confirmed the arrest in a post on his X handle, stating that he and several others were picked up by officers of the Federal Capital Territory Command Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He wrote: “We’ve just been arrested. Myself, Prince Emanuel and others. We are at FCT Command CID, No. 1 Zaria Street, Garki 2, Abuja.”

Earlier, Ejimakor had accused security operatives of firing teargas to disperse peaceful protesters who gathered to demand Kanu’s release. He said the incident irritated his eyes and throat.
“I’m in front of Transcorp Hilton with a mammoth crowd that gathered for #MNKOct20, and the police just exploded teargas. My eyes and throat hurt. They’re scattering everywhere,” Ejimakor stated.

The protesters had converged in the capital to renew calls for the Federal Government to obey court rulings ordering the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.
