The Jigawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recorded major breakthroughs in 2025, seizing illicit drugs valued at over ₦2.8 billion.
The state commandant, Mr. Hassan K. Kabaju, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the command’s performance for the year.
He said NDLEA operatives arrested 577 suspects across the state. The suspects included 558 males and 19 females. NDLEA officers carried out the arrests during several operations aimed at cutting off drug supply chains.

Kabaju said the command confiscated 1,944.389 kilogrammes of illegal drugs. The seized items included cannabis sativa, psychotropic substances, Exol-5, rubber solution, and other harmful exhibits.
He explained that the agency valued the recovered drugs at over ₦2.8 billion after proper assessment.
The NDLEA also recorded success in prosecution during the year. Kabaju said the command secured 136 convictions at the Federal High Court in Dutse.
He noted that the cases were drug-related and were concluded within the year under review.
Focus on Rehabilitation and Prevention
Kabaju said the command went beyond arrests and prosecution. He explained that NDLEA strengthened its rehabilitation and prevention efforts.
According to him, officers referred 552 drug users for counselling. In addition, 59 drug-dependent persons received treatment and rehabilitation at the Drug Demand Reduction Unit (DDRU). Families and parents supported many of the referrals.

The command also expanded advocacy under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.
Kabaju said NDLEA delivered 39,383 drug abuse prevention lectures and sensitisation programmes. These activities covered schools, tertiary institutions, NYSC members, government agencies, civil society groups, and drug-free clubs. The agency also used print and electronic media.
Despite the gains, Kabaju said the command still faces challenges. He identified a lack of operational vehicles and shortages of key equipment.
He said these gaps affect the agency’s ability to cover the entire state effectively.
