The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of veteran photojournalist Malam Umar Usman.
DSP Mansir Hassan, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed the abduction on Tuesday in Kaduna, noting that investigations have begun to secure the journalist’s safe release. “We are trying our best to rescue him unhurt,” he said.

According to the police, Usman was abducted around 9 p.m. on Monday by suspected bandits in Danhonu II community, Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident has sparked fear among residents in the area.
Usman, who was taken from his home, is a retired staff member of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Kaduna Station, and also previously worked with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Kaduna.

DSP Hassan added that Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad immediately deployed operatives to track the kidnappers and ensure Usman’s safe return. He urged members of the public to provide any information that could help security agencies in the rescue operation.
