The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recorded major victories in its war against kidnappers, armed robbers, and drug dealers.
At a press briefing on Friday, September 19, 2025, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, told newsmen that the successes were made possible through teamwork with other security agencies and cooperation from residents. He stressed that policing thrives on transparency and collaboration.
“What you will see and hear today are not just statistics or exhibits, but clear evidence of the resilience of the FCT Police Command,” Adewale said.
On September 15, gunmen attacked Kpobi and Kpaduma, 3 villages in Guzape. They injured two vigilantes and killed one, Bako Pwaza. The assailants tried to abduct two young women, but a swift police response rescued them.

Two days later, the same gang abducted Nafiu Idris, a staff of the FCTA Department of Urban Affairs, in Karu. Police launched a joint clearance operation with the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army, DSS operatives, hunters, and vigilantes.
On September 18, the operation paid off as security forces stormed the gang’s hideout in Zinda Forest, near the Nigerian Army Estate in Kurudu. After a fierce gun battle, police killed three notorious leaders: Abdullahi Umar (“Duna”), Buba Ahmadi (“Killer”), and Habi Sule (“Mai-Kudi”).

Officers recovered two AK-49 rifles, two magazines with seven live rounds, ATM cards, mobile phones, charms, and ₦10,000 cash. Investigations revealed the gang had staged kidnappings in Guzape, Karu, Kurudu, and parts of Nasarawa. Their planned abduction of a resident in Federal Housing Estate, Karu, was foiled by the raid.
CP Adewale also announced the arrest of 11 suspected drug dealers. Police raided black spots across Abuja and seized 68 bags of substances believed to be cannabis and other narcotics.

He explained that dismantling drug networks helps cut off supply chains that fuel violent crimes in the FCT.

Police also cracked down on armed robbery gangs, popularly known as “one-chance” operators.
On April 30, a victim, Mr. Kelvin Okorie, boarded a commercial vehicle in Lugbe. The robbers held him at knife-point, seized his ATM card, and withdrew ₦2.7 million from his account.
Investigations led to the arrest of three suspects: Ahmed Mohammed, Ashafa Ali, and Mohammed Lamido Jabir. They confessed to the crime. Police also recovered three vehicles linked to their operations and other stolen items.

In separate operations, police recovered seven firearms, including a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, five magazines, and 20 rounds of live ammunition.
CP Adewale said these recoveries weakened criminal firepower and reassured residents of ongoing police commitment to public safety.
