DHL Aviation has expanded its logistics capacity in Nigeria with the deployment of two fully branded Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft, reinforcing its air freight network across West Africa.
The aircraft were unveiled at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, as part of DHL’s broader investment in strengthening logistics infrastructure across Sub-Saharan Africa.
In a statement, the company said the additional air capacity will improve transit times, enhance delivery reliability, and extend its reach to support businesses operating within West Africa and on key international trade routes.
DHL noted that the expansion is designed to meet growing demand from regional businesses, particularly in sectors such as e-commerce, perishables, energy, and life sciences and healthcare.
Speaking on the development, Vice President, Operations and Aviation, DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa, Anthony Beckley, said the move aligns with rising trade activity across the continent.

“As trade expands across Africa under the African Continental Free Trade Area, businesses are increasingly demanding predictable transit times and consistent delivery performance. These two dedicated aircraft will be integrated into DHL Aviation’s African air network, strengthening connections on critical Africa–Europe and Africa–Asia trade lanes,” Beckley said.
The company added that the investment in aviation capacity complements its long-term focus on sustainable growth.
DHL said it is advancing digitalisation through AI-enabled route optimisation and digital customs tools, while also piloting renewable energy and alternative fuel projects across its facilities.
Also speaking, Riaan Vorster, Aviation Senior Director, DHL Aviation Sub-Saharan Africa, said the expansion underscores the company’s commitment to supporting regional and global trade.
“With this latest investment, DHL Express reaffirms its position as the logistics partner of choice for businesses seeking to grow their presence in regional and global value chains,” Vorster said.
