The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit, Zone C, Owerri, has intercepted a truckload of illicit drugs valued at over N1 billion along the Okada/Ofosu Expressway in Benin City, Edo State.
The seized items include 1,025,000 tablets of Tramadol and 10,000 bottles of Barcadin Codeine Syrup (100ml each), marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking.
Controller of the Unit, Bishir Balogun, said the interception was made on March 15, 2026, through strategic intelligence and coordinated enforcement operations.

According to him, operatives flagged down the truck, but the driver attempted to evade arrest before eventually stopping, abandoning the vehicle, and fleeing into nearby bushland.
The Customs Service described the operation as part of intensified efforts to clamp down on the illegal movement of controlled substances across the country.
