Nigeria Customs Honours Female Officers, Reaffirms Commitment to Gender Inclusion

As global conversations on gender inclusion gain momentum, and the world continues to celebrate the contributions of women across various sectors, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Friday staged a surprise ceremony at its headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, to honour its female officers for their dedication, resilience, and sacrifices in service to the nation.

The event, which caught many of the officers unaware, celebrated the contributions of over 6,000 women serving across the Service’s commands and formations nationwide.

Held at the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, the ceremony highlighted the critical roles female officers play in securing Nigeria’s borders and facilitating trade.

From frontline patrol operations to strategic administrative and leadership positions, the women have continued to demonstrate professionalism, courage, and excellence in duty.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, commended the officers for their unwavering commitment, noting that their contributions remain vital to the Service’s mandate.

Beyond their professional roles, Adeniyi acknowledged the personal sacrifices many of the officers make, often balancing demanding assignments with family responsibilities.

He said the surprise recognition was designed not only to celebrate their achievements but also to boost morale and reinforce institutional support for women in the Service.

Also speaking, the National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Kikelomo Adeniyi, stressed the importance of continued support systems for female personnel and their families.

Flowers, Applause, and Renewed Commitment

The highlight of the event was the presentation of flowers to 70 distinguished female officers, drawing applause and emotional reactions from attendees.

The gesture symbolised appreciation for their service and a renewed commitment by the Service to promote gender inclusion.

The Nigeria Customs Service reiterated its resolve to expand opportunities for women and strengthen policies that support their growth within its ranks.

As Nigeria pushes for broader gender equality across institutions, the increasing visibility and impact of women in the Customs Service signal a steady transformation within the country’s security and economic architecture.
