The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a sweeping victory in the Rivers State local government elections, winning 20 out of the 23 councils contested on Saturday.
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) announced the results in Port Harcourt on Sunday, confirming the APC’s dominance across most local government areas.

The party’s candidates, many of whom are loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were declared winners in both chairmanship and councillorship positions.
Landslide Victories Recorded
Some of the local councils where APC prevailed include Ahoada East, where it polled 84,125 votes; Akuku Toru with 63,593; Andoni with 126,181; Asari Toru with 56,383; Bonny with 13,543; Degema with 61,536; and Etche, where it garnered 100,649 votes.
RSIEC also announced victories for the party in several other councils across the state.
PDP Claims Three LGAs
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), however, managed to hold on to three local governments, including Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, where it polled 328,888 votes, and Onelga with 51,051 votes.
