Former Chairman of Wudil Local Government Council, Abubakar Abdullahi Likita, slumped and died during the funeral prayer for his close associate, Mahmoud Sani Madakin Gini, a former Dala Local Government Chairman on Monday in Kano.
Likita reportedly collapsed while the Janazah prayer was ongoing, causing panic among sympathizers and mourners in attendance. All efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was later confirmed dead.
His death came just hours after that of Madakin Gini, who reportedly died in a fatal car crash along the Kaduna Abuja highway earlier the same day. The two were well-known political figures who served under the Shekarau led administration in Kano State.
A close associate, Abubakar Musa, confirmed Likita’s passing to newsmen.
It was also gathered that Likita had been in the same vehicle with the 2023 Kano State governorship candidate, Dr. Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, on their way to attend Madakin Gini’s burial rites.
The double loss has plunged Kano’s political circle into mourning, especially among allies of the late politicians who remembered their contributions to grassroots governance and local development in the state.
