UN Raises the Alarm Over Rising Civilian Deaths in Sudan’s El Fasher

The United Nations has expressed deep concern over the worsening violence and increasing civilian casualties in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, as clashes intensify between Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

UN officials have accused the RSF of committing grave violations in the city, including murder, rape, and deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure.

The humanitarian situation has deteriorated sharply, with residents facing severe shortages of food, medical supplies, and access to basic services.

Dozens Killed in Renewed Fighting

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said more than 50 people had been killed since the beginning of October, citing reports from medical and local sources.
“We condemn this escalation of violence and the killing of innocent civilians,” Dujarric said.

According to the Sudan Doctors Network, at least 12 civilians, including women and children, died when RSF fighters attacked a hospital in El Fasher earlier this week.

Seventeen others were injured in the assault, which came a day after a separate strike on the hospital’s materniSudan, El Fasher, United Nations, Rapid Support Forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, Darfur conflict, civilian casualties, humanitarian crisisty ward.

A mosque sheltering displaced families was also targeted, leaving more than a dozen dead, further compounding the crisis in the besieged city.

Civilians Trapped, Aid Blocked

The UN warned that thousands of civilians remain trapped in El Fasher, unable to flee the fighting or receive humanitarian aid.

“The people of El Fasher are living in fear, trapped and cut off from life-saving assistance,” the organisation said.

Humanitarian groups say access routes to the city are blocked, while ongoing air and ground attacks have made it impossible to deliver medical or food supplies.

The conflict between Sudan’s military, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the RSF, commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, has ravaged Darfur for months, displacing hundreds of thousands and pushing the region to the brink of famine.
