APC Debunks Claims of Replacing Shettima as Tinubu’s 2027 Running Mate, Calls it ‘Non Issue’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that Vice-President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued on Monday, Felix Morka, national publicity secretary of the party, described the reports as “speculative, untrue and utterly baseless”.

According to the APC, the speculation has intensified in recent days following the circulation of names of individuals purportedly being considered as possible replacements.

“Our party states in categorical terms that the stories are purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” the statement said.

The ruling party urged media organisations to desist from amplifying what it described as rumours originating from “mischievous news sources of questionable provenance”.

Morka said the reports were aimed at stirring discord and creating confusion within the polity.

The APC also noted that the ban on political activities remains in force in line with existing laws and electoral regulations.

He added that the party remains focused on supporting President Tinubu and Vice-President Shettima in delivering the administration’s renewed hope agenda.

“At this time, our party remains focused on supporting President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in delivering the administration’s renewed hope agenda,” the statement read.

The party said reforms being implemented by the administration are gradually transforming the economy, building prosperity and improving living conditions for Nigerians.

The APC further cautioned ministers, senior government officials and party leaders against fuelling unnecessary speculation, urging them to concentrate on diligent service and on strengthening the success of the Tinubu administration.

In June 2025, a stakeholders’ summit of the APC in Gombe turned chaotic after some speakers endorsed Tinubu for a second term without making reference to Shettima.

Reacting to the development days later, Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, dismissed the incident as a “non-issue”.
