Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally joined the Accord Party, days after announcing his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Adeleke made the declaration on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, where he received party leaders from the national and state levels.
A statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that the governor would seek re-election on the platform of the Accord Party, which he said he joined on November 6.
The governor explained that his decision followed weeks of consultations with political stakeholders and community leaders across the state.
Second-Term Bid
Speaking at the event, Adeleke said his move to the party was informed by its commitment to public welfare, a priority he noted aligns with his administration’s focus.
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026,” he said. “Stakeholders and residents of Osun State understand why we are taking this important step. We intend to pursue a second term to complete the delivery of good governance and democratic dividends.”
Adeleke told his guests that the Accord Party’s welfarist ideology mirrored his administration’s programmes, adding that governance should always centre on citizens’ well-being.
Call for Unity Ahead of Elections
The governor urged party members to work together as preparations intensify for the 2026 governorship race, stressing the need for inclusive leadership.
“At this historical point, our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for the elections,” he said. “Our party is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance in the state.”
He described his experience in the party since joining as “fascinating”, saying its philosophy of prioritising people’s welfare resonated with him.

Adeleke also toured several communities in his address, calling on residents across Osun West, Osun East and Osun Central to support his new platform.
Why He Left PDP
The governor resigned from the PDP on December 1, citing persistent leadership crises at the national level.
He disclosed that he submitted his resignation at his ward in Sagba Abogunde, Ede North Local Government, on November 4.
In a message shared on his social media accounts, he thanked PDP members and supporters for the opportunities he enjoyed within the party, from serving as senator to becoming governor.
