Nigeria Engages U.S. in Diplomacy After Trump’s Military Invasion Threat — Minister

The Federal Government has confirmed that it is in diplomatic talks with the United States following the recent military threat issued by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who revealed this in an interview with newsmen, noted that communication channels have been opened between both governments to ease tensions and foster understanding.

“Channels of communication have been opened. I can confirm that we are talking with them, and I think they are understanding the situation better,” Idris said.

He explained that much of the controversy stemmed from misinformation and a limited understanding of Nigeria’s internal security dynamics.

“We believe that most of the information is a result of a lack of proper understanding of the diversity and complexity of the problem we have at hand,” the minister added.

Idris further emphasised that Nigeria has not lost any territory to Boko Haram insurgents, describing the ongoing counterterrorism effort as an unconventional war that requires both patience and strategy.

He also alleged that certain proscribed separatist groups within Nigeria are collaborating with U.S.-based lobbyists to misinform American authorities about the country’s security situation.

According to the minister, the government remains confident that continued dialogue with Washington will help clarify misunderstandings and prevent the escalation of diplomatic tensions.
