S’East Govs Didn’t Abandon Kanu – Otti

Says the governors are engaging authorities for the IPOB leader’s Release
Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti has dismissed claims that South East governors have abandoned the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking at a media parley in Umuahia on Thursday, Otti said the governors were seriously engaging relevant authorities to secure Kanu’s release. He, however, stressed that not all efforts could be made public.
“Some of the engagements and assurances we have received are not for public consumption since they may derail the process. But you can take it for granted that, as his Governor, I am at the forefront of ensuring he comes back home. All the South East governors are together in this,” Otti said.

His remarks followed a protest on Wednesday by Igbo elders at the Abia Government House over Kanu’s continued detention. The elders accused political leaders of neglect and urged Otti to rally his colleagues to engage President Bola Tinubu on the matter.
Otti expressed optimism that the ongoing engagements would yield results.
Reoccurring Violence
On the recurring communal clashes between the Itu community in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia and their neighbours in Cross River, Otti said his administration was working with Cross River and Akwa Ibom governments to restore peace.
He attributed the violence to unverified reports of natural resources in the disputed area, particularly limestone, and disclosed that Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu had been leading discussions with counterparts in Abuja to resolve the crisis.
“So please reassure the displaced people that they are not abandoned and that very soon they will return to their ancestral homes,” he added.
Governor Otti also reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding Abia State, vowing not to succumb to blackmail. He said while some individuals resort to mischief and politically motivated attacks, his administration remained open to constructive criticism.
