Suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Tuesday, returned to her office at the National Assembly following its reopening by the Sergeant-at-Arms in the company of security operatives.

The lawmaker, dressed in black, arrived at the complex around 2:30 p.m. with her supporters shortly after officials announced the unsealing of her office, which had remained locked for six months.

Her entry was briefly resisted by some security personnel who attempted to prevent her from accessing the main building, creating mild drama within the complex.

The Senate is currently on recess and is expected to reconvene on October 7, 2025. The reopening of her office is seen as a step toward her eventual return to full legislative duties when plenary resumes.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate in March over alleged violations of its standing rules. The suspension followed her allegation of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, a development that sparked strong reactions from civil society organisations and opposition figures, many of whom condemned the Senate’s decision.

In July, she challenged her suspension in court and made an attempt to resume sitting but was unsuccessful.

With Tuesday’s development, the lawmaker’s reinstatement appears imminent as lawmakers prepare to resume plenary next month.
