Arise News Director of News and Politics Editor, Sumner Sambo, has said former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration performed better in tackling poverty than the current government of President Bola Tinubu.
Sambo made the remark on Monday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show.
According to him, Buhari’s government between 2015 and 2023 introduced more poverty reduction programmes compared to what Tinubu has done so far.
“Yes, indeed, he may not have personally done so much in terms of uplifting the people of Kaduna State, in terms of poverty figures and all of that.
“But you will agree with me that having been central to ensuring that Muhammadu Buhari won the election in 2015 and some of the strategies put in place by Buhari between 2015 and 2023, you will agree with me that that government actually seemed to have performed better in terms of rolling out poverty reduction programmes than the Bola Tinubu administration when it comes to the issues of tackling poverty,” Sambo said.

He noted that since the removal of former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, whom he described as effective, the Tinubu administration has failed to show clear focus in the poverty alleviation and humanitarian sector.
“Since the sack of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Beta Edu, whom I think was actually doing well for the Bola Tinubu administration, the appointments that have gone to the poverty alleviation and humanitarian ministry under Tinubu have been very poor. We don’t see so much focus on reduction of poverty,” he added.
Sambo urged the current administration to take the criticisms seriously and make poverty alleviation a priority.
