2027: Kwankwaso Rules Out Defection, Open To Discussion

Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed speculations that he plans to leave the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the NNPP in Abuja yesterday, Kwankwaso said he remained committed to the party, stressing that discussions with other political groups would only be considered in the interest of fairness and collective progress.

“Many people expected that today we would announce whether I am leaving NNPP or joining another political party. That was never the purpose of this meeting,” he said.

“We have our party, we are comfortable here, and we are happy. We are not in a hurry. NNPP members and leadership believe we have something to offer this country at the highest level of leadership, and we want to do it the right way. We are ready to engage anyone, but if there is any negotiation, it will be done collectively.”

Kwankwaso also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to expanding its membership, noting that more Nigerians were joining the NNPP.

Earlier, the National Chairman of the party, Dr Ajuji Ahmed, declared that the NNPP would present Kwankwaso as its flag bearer in 2027.

Ahmed described the NNPP as “the beautiful bride of Nigerian politics”, stressing that the party was gaining strength and popularity as the country moves towards the next general elections.
