Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finally accepted three positions the minister canvassed as far back as 2022.
Olayinka argued that the party would have avoided much of its leadership crisis had it listened to Wike’s warnings earlier.
He made the remarks while reacting to the outcome of the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, where the party resolved to zone its presidential ticket to the South and the National Chairmanship to the North, among other decisions.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Olayinka said the party had rejected Wike’s position three years ago but has now adopted all of them.
He noted that Wike had insisted zoning must follow the party’s constitution, maintained that Sam Anyanwu could not be removed as National Secretary except through resignation, and argued that the constitution clearly provides that when a National Chairman resigns or dies, the Deputy National Chairman from that zone assumes office in an acting capacity.
According to him, the party’s belated acceptance of these positions has vindicated the FCT Minister.
“On these issues he has been vindicated. But the fundamental question remains: is it not now too late?” He asked.
The remarks highlight ongoing divisions within the PDP as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
