Senator Ned Nwoko (APC–Delta North) has called on security agencies to ensure those behind staged kidnappings are prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, Nwoko decried the rising trend of self-orchestrated abductions, describing it as reckless and alien to the values of his constituency.
The lawmaker disclosed that he recently intervened in a purported abduction case after receiving a distress call from a parent whose son was said to have been kidnapped. A viral video had shown the young man in a forest in Aniocha North.
“I immediately mobilised the police and local vigilantes for rescue, only for investigations to reveal that the young man staged his own kidnapping,” Nwoko said.

He described the act as criminal, stressing that such incidents not only traumatise families but also waste security resources, undermine public confidence, and trivialise the experiences of genuine victims.
“I therefore urge security agencies to ensure the culprits face the full weight of the law, to send a clear message that such deceit has no place in our society,” he added.
Nwoko reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding communities in Delta North, supporting security agencies, and promoting peace and trust among his people.
