A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Buba Galadima, has expressed doubts over the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct credible elections under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Galadima accused the government of neglecting governance for politics barely two years into its tenure.
He said INEC had lost the courage to caution politicians who engage in early campaigns, stressing that those in government were the first to disregard electoral guidelines.

“When INEC was truly independent, it warned politicians against heating up the polity with premature politicking. Today, the commission does not even have the muscle to call anyone to order because government officials themselves are guilty,” Galadima said.
He questioned how elections could be free and fair under such circumstances. “If INEC cannot stop politicians from jumping the gun, how will it have the liver to conduct a credible election?” he asked.
Galadima maintained that opposition figures were holding back for now but would make their presence felt at the appropriate time.
