The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has praised a court ruling that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to allow it upload the names of its candidates.
The ruling came from the Nasarawa State High Court. It directed INEC to give access codes to the Abure-led group to submit names for the upcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council elections and bye-elections.
In a statement, the National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, welcomed the court’s decision. He said it would correct many wrongs done to the party’s leadership.
He said the party hoped INEC would obey the order and publish the names of its candidates without delay.
Mr. Ifoh also complained that Labour Party candidates were not given equal time to campaign like others. He accused INEC of deliberately blocking their participation.

He said this was not the first time. In Ondo State, the party got its access code only 24 hours before the governorship election.
Mr. Ifoh called on party members to stay strong. He said Labour Party is popular and would win the elections.
The court order which was given by Justice Mustapha A. Ramat in suit No. NSD/LF.84/2024 ruled that Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim should be recognised as the rightful leaders of the party.
The court also ordered INEC to allow them upload names and details of candidates for the upcoming elections.
As of press time, INEC had not published the names of Labour Party candidates for the bye-election this Saturday or for the 2026 FCT council polls.
