Police swiftly intervene, warn against further attacks on officers

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the arrest of several individuals following a violent civil unrest sparked by a land dispute in the Kuchibyi community, under the Byazin Division of the FCT.

The incident, which became public through a distress call received by the Command, prompted an immediate deployment of personnel by the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of Byazin and Kubwa.

The officers quickly mobilized to the area and brought the situation under control. According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the unrest was strictly a communal issue and had no direct link to the police.

However, tension escalated when some agitated youths launched attacks on officers who were responding to the emergency call.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Sunday Adewale, condemned the assault on officers and emphasised that the police will not tolerate any attack on law enforcement agents. He warned that those involved in such acts would face the full weight of the law.

“The police were deployed to restore peace and order,” he said. “Any aggression towards security agencies in the line of duty will be met with firm action.”

The Command also urged community members, particularly the youth, to remain law-abiding and shun any acts capable of inciting further violence or threatening public peace.

It emphasised that the police remain committed to protecting all residents of the FCT and fostering collaborative community policing.

The police say investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further updates will be shared with the public in due course.
