Nigeria’s D’Tigress began their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket campaign with a ruthless 92–45 demolition of Rwanda, sending an early warning to their continental rivals.
Led by head coach Rena Wakama, the defending champions took control from tip-off and never looked back. The Nigerian side closed the first half with a comfortable 45–25 lead, dominating both ends of the court with precision passing, speed, and defensive pressure that left the Rwandans gasping for rhythm.
In the third quarter, D’Tigress continued their onslaught, extending the gap to 71–37. With every fast break and three-pointer, they deepened Rwanda’s woes while asserting their status as favourites.
By the final whistle, the gap had widened to an astonishing 47 points, confirming Nigeria’s intent to retain their title and continue their dominance in African women’s basketball.
Wakama’s Side Sets the Tempo
The victory marks a confident start for Wakama, who led D’Tigress to their fourth consecutive AfroBasket title in 2023. With a well-balanced team combining experience and emerging talent, Nigeria looked fluid, fearless, and well-drilled.
