Judge Orders Police To Arrest Turaki Over Absence in Court

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has ordered the arrest of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, the factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for failing to appear in court on Thursday, March 26, 2026.

The trial judge, U.P. Kekemeke, issued a bench warrant after ruling that Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties, had no valid reason for his absence.

Case Details

The Nigeria Police Force, through the Inspector-General of Police, filed a one-count charge against Turaki, accusing him of providing false information in a petition submitted in October 2022.

The arrest order comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP.

Turaki’s faction, which emerged from a disputed convention in Ibadan, has suffered a series of legal setbacks, including a recent ruling by the Court of Appeal that nullified his emergence as chairman.

Turaki is also entangled in a separate paternity dispute  involving Hadiza Musa Baffathat has generated legal proceedings and public attention. The case centres on claims regarding the paternity of a child, which escalated into criminal allegations.

On February 6, 2025, Turaki was arraigned at an FCT Magistrate Court on charges of adultery, criminal intimidation, and criminal conspiracy. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of ₦1 million

Turaki’s supporters, including Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, have continued to back his claim to the PDP leadership, despite opposition from a rival faction aligned with Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
