Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has described the attack on his convoy as “a painful act clearly linked to politics.”
Suspected thugs on Monday attacked the convoy of Malami in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital.
Malami, who served as a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before emerging as leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, was returning from a condolence visit when the incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses told journalists that about 10 vehicles in the convoy were destroyed, while several of Malami’s supporters sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Reacting, Malami expressed shock over the attack, insisting that his visit was purely to sympathize with families of prominent individuals who died during his absence, and not for political campaigns.

“It’s a painful act clearly linked to politics. Some thugs came out from the APC state headquarters armed with dangerous weapons and stones, attacking and destroying our convoy,” Malami alleged.
“The truth is, when it comes to politics in Kebbi State, there is no retreat, no surrender,” he added.
APC Denies Involvement
Publicity Secretary of the APC in Kebbi, Isa Assalafy, denied the party’s involvement and strongly condemned the incident.
“Kebbi is a peaceful state. No government that enjoys massive support from the people and is confident of victory in 2027 would want the peace of the state to be disrupted,” Assalafy stated.
He alleged that security personnel attached to Malami’s convoy fired shots during the confrontation, which worsened the situation.
Police Launch Investigation
The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation is underway.
Speaking after an emergency security meeting with service chiefs, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bello Sani, said no arrests had been made but assured that efforts were ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
