Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has donated ₦50 million to the family of Lt. Col. O.C. Okolo, who was killed in a Boko Haram attack on the Mandaragirau community in Biu LGA on February 16, 2026.
The donation was presented on April 10 at the officer’s funeral in Obinofia-Ndiuno, Ezeagu LGA of Enugu State. The governor was represented by his special adviser on security, Brig.-Gen. Abdullahi Ishaq (rtd).
Zulum said the support was part of ongoing efforts to assist families of military personnel who died in the line of duty. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to backing troops engaged in counter-insurgency operations and defending the country’s territorial integrity.

He added that the state government would continue to visit and support families of personnel killed or declared missing in operations across Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region.
The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved family, describing the late officer as dedicated and committed, and prayed for strength for those he left behind.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Stanley Okolo thanked the Borno State Government for the donation and for sending a delegation to the funeral.
The event was attended by representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, including Brig.-Gen. G.A. Suru, as well as Brig.-Gen. I.P. Omoke, commander of the 25 Brigade, who represented the theatre commander of Operation HADIN KAI. Members of NAOWA and the host community were also present.
