Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday, March 30, by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani.
According to the statement, Governor Zulum’s dissolution of his Executive Council is intended to create room for members of the council who may wish to contest elective positions in the forthcoming general elections.
The governor directed all commissioners to hand over the affairs of their ministries to permanent secretaries.

The handover process is to be completed on or before April 3, 2026.
Zulum commended the outgoing commissioners for their service, thanking them for their contributions to the development of the state.
“Governor Zulum expressed his profound appreciation to the outgoing Commissioners for their dedication, commitment, and invaluable contributions to the development and service of the people of Borno state.”
Pinnacle Daily reports after the federal directive from President Bola Tinubu, directing all political appointees seeking elective offices to resign before March 31, Several state governors from Zamfara, Nasarawa, Kano, Delta state and now Borno state have all given their political appointees seeking elective offices up to March 31 to resign, in line with the amended Electoral Act.
These directives are in compliance with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act 2026 and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable for the 2027 general elections.
