A devastating rainstorm has claimed two lives and destroyed more than 50 houses in Dokan Mai-Jama’a, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving many residents homeless.
The Village Head of Dokan Mai-Jama’a, Hamisu Tukur, confirmed the incident, stating that the storm caused widespread destruction across the community.
Residents said the heavy downpour, accompanied by strong winds, began around 6:41 p.m. on Monday and lasted for over 40 minutes. Eyewitness accounts indicate that several buildings were completely flattened, while others had their roofs blown off.

Families were seen salvaging belongings from the wreckage, with many forced to seek temporary shelter as a result of the disaster.

Victims have appealed to the Kaduna State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency for urgent intervention.
In a related development, the storm also affected Sabon Gyero community within Millennium City, where several houses were damaged and more than 10 perimeter fences destroyed. The rainfall further disrupted traffic, blocking a major road and forcing motorists to take alternative routes.
Meanwhile, NEMA has deployed a team to Dokan Mai-Jama’a to assess the extent of the damage and determine the necessary response.
