Nwosu: INEC Can't Conduct 2027 Election Without ADC on Ballot

Ralph Nwosu, former national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot conduct the 2027 general election without including the party on the ballot.

Nwosu spoke on Wednesday in Abuja during the ADC Youths Champion and Prospective Legislative Summit.

He said the party has recorded significant growth since the coalition arrangement within the ADC and insisted that the movement cannot be undermined.

According to him, the party now has the structure and support base needed to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next election.

“With the number we have today in ADC, what we have achieved through the coalition is remarkable, and no matter what anybody does, it cannot be destroyed,” he said.

He added that any attempt to weaken the ADC would amount to undermining democracy itself.

Nwosu said the party has already put strategies in place to protect its position ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The time is over for Tinubu politically,” he said, adding that Senate President Godswill Akpabio would also be voted out.

The former ADC chairman claimed that the party’s membership drive has continued to gain momentum, with millions of Nigerians already indicating interest in joining.

According to him, the party’s database shows that more than five million people are willing to register and financially support the ADC, while the figure could rise to at least 11 million before registration closes.

He also alleged that despite efforts by the ruling party to destabilise the ADC, some lawmakers from the All Progressives Congress (APC) are preparing to defect to the opposition party.

ADC Youth Leader Demands Inclusion

Speaking at the event, ADC National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufai, called on the party leadership to ensure that its commitment to youth and women participation is fully implemented.

He said the party’s 35 per cent affirmative action policy should go beyond rhetoric and translate into actual political opportunities.

Rufai stated that the party constitution reserves 12 governorship tickets for young people, as well as at least one senatorial ticket in every state.

He added that between 10 and 15 state assembly slots per state have also been set aside for youths.

“These are not mere promises or political statements. They are commitments that must be implemented,” he said.
