Amid an internal crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has stepped up efforts to attract influential politicians, including former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who on Monday received party leaders at his Abuja residence.
Among those in attendance was the party’s National Vice-Chairman (North-West), Mohammed Bakin, alongside other senior figures.
Sources within the Kwankwasiyya movement revealed that the NDC delegation used the meeting to urge Kwankwaso to join the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
In recent weeks, there has been growing speculation about possible political alliances, including talks of a joint ticket involving Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023.
Last week, supporters of both politicians unveiled the “OK Movement” as part of efforts to build support for their potential collaboration.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set May 30, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit membership registers and nominate candidates.
Opposition parties, including the ADC, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have asked INEC to extend the timeline for primaries to the end of July, arguing that the current schedule puts them at a disadvantage.
