The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has issued a firm warning to all participating clubs, players, and officials ahead of the new season, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on involvement in betting activities.
The league made this clear in an official memo signed by its Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, as preparations intensify for the kickoff of the 2025–26 NPFL season on Friday, August 22.
According to the statement, any player or official found engaging in betting, especially in relation to NPFL matches, will face strict disciplinary action.
“The NPFL wishes to remind all clubs, players and officials of the strict prohibition on betting activities in relation to NPFL matches, as per our regulation and in line with global best practices,” the memo stated.

The NPFL also reaffirmed its commitment to fair play, transparency, and integrity, noting that maintaining the credibility of the domestic league remains a top priority.
The move comes amid growing concerns over match-fixing and unethical behaviour in football leagues around the world, with regulators tightening oversight to safeguard the integrity of the sport.
