Nigeria Meets 2025 Revenue Target, Economy Now Stable- Tinubu

Tinubu Returns to Nigeria after Vacation Abroad

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says Nigeria met its 2025 revenue target as early as August and now has enough resources to run government programmes without borrowing.

He described the development as proof that the economy, once shaken by turbulence, is beginning to stabilise.

Tinubu made the disclosure yesterday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while hosting members of The Buhari Organisation (TBO), a group formed by leaders of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC).

“Today, I can stand here before you to brag: Nigeria is not borrowing. We have met our revenue target for the year, and we met it in August,” he told the delegation.

The president also highlighted progress in the foreign exchange market. “The economy has stabilised; nobody is trading a piece of paper for an exchange rate anymore. When I took over, it was ₦1,900 to a dollar. It’s ₦1,450 now. Rates are stabilising. You don’t have to know a CBN governor; all you have to do is export, import, and create jobs for the people.”

Focus on Jobs and Food Security

Tinubu reaffirmed that fixing the economy, creating jobs, and restoring hope remain his administration’s top priorities.

He announced a large-scale agricultural mechanisation programme that will set up modern farming centres, training schemes, and job opportunities across all regions. According to him, food sovereignty is central to the Renewed Hope Agenda, with the ultimate goal of defeating poverty by ending hunger.

The president dismissed concerns that new U.S. trade tariffs under Donald Trump would hurt Nigeria’s economy. He insisted his government is diversifying and expanding non-oil revenue sources.

“If non-oil revenue is going where it is going, then have no fear of whatever Trump is doing on the other side,” he said.

The TBO delegation, led by former Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura and House of Representatives Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, pledged unconditional support for Tinubu’s administration and his 2027 re-election bid.

Abbas dismissed speculation of division within the CPC bloc of the APC.

“From the calibre of people you see here, you will be convinced that the notion that CPC is broken or not with this administration is a lie. More than 90 per cent of those who were active during the time of CPC are present,” he said.

He also praised Tinubu for honouring the late President Muhammadu Buhari, noting the state burial with full military honours and multiple condolence visits to Katsina and Kaduna.

In an emotional moment, Tinubu recalled his political partnership with Buhari and promised to immortalise him by building a “Buhari House”, which he described as a “house of joy and prosperity”.

He recounted their early disagreements during the APC merger talks, including arguments over party symbols, but stressed that their bond rested on progressive ideals of honesty, transparency, and justice.

“We disagreed to agree. We even argued over a symbol. He insisted on parliament, and I insisted on a broom. He was so stubborn,” Tinubu recalled with humour.

CPC Veterans Reaffirm Alliance

Senator Al-Makura, speaking for the group, praised Tinubu’s leadership and pledged their “full and unwavering support”. He described the Tinubu-Buhari alliance as one built on purpose and vision rather than personal gain.

“You were united by purpose and vision, not benefits. Together you conceptualised and built a foundation that makes the Renewed Hope Agenda a vision that is pragmatic, scientific, and rewarding,” he said.

Al-Makura also commended Tinubu for consoling the nation during Buhari’s passing.

“You not only buried Muhammadu Buhari but honoured him and ensured a befitting state burial with full military honours.”

Tinubu thanked TBO members for their loyalty and patience over pending federal appointments. He assured them that ambassadorial and political slots were still open and would soon be filled.

“I couldn’t appoint everybody at once. Thank you for your patience. I still have some slots for ambassadorial positions that so many people are craving. But it’s not easy stitching those names,” he admitted.

He urged his allies to remain steadfast despite challenges, adding that their presence gave him greater resolve to work harder for the country.
