A former senator who represented Zamfara Central in the Senate, Kabir Marafa, has officially defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, former Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, said Marafa moved to the party alongside a large number of his supporters, describing the development as a significant boost to the NDC’s strength in Zamfara.
The party said Marafa has pledged to promote its ideals and oversee its structures in the state.

“The National Chairman, other members of the leadership, and I warmly received him as he declared his commitment to advancing the vision of the NDC and leading its activities in Zamfara State,” the statement said.
The party called on Nigerians, particularly residents of Zamfara, to support efforts toward peace, stability, and development, noting that Marafa is expected to champion these goals under the NDC platform.
It also expressed appreciation to members and supporters for their confidence in the party’s direction.
The NDC said it has witnessed a surge in membership, describing itself as the fastest-growing political movement in the country within three months of its formation.
Looking ahead to its primary elections scheduled for the end of May, the party urged those seeking to contest or hold positions on its platform to complete their registration before the membership window closes.
