Navy Moves to Boost Personnel Welfare with New Abuja Hospital, Housing Projects

The Nigerian Navy has commenced the construction of a modern hospital in Asokoro, Abuja, while also commissioning new housing and infrastructure projects aimed at improving personnel welfare and operational efficiency.

Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, said the projects underscore the Navy’s renewed commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and enhancing the living standards of officers, ratings and their families.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nigerian Navy Hospital in Asokoro on Wednesday, Abbas described the facility as one of the first major infrastructure projects initiated under his leadership.

He said the hospital, when completed, would feature modern diagnostic, treatment and specialist care facilities capable of managing complex medical conditions that often force Nigerians to seek healthcare abroad.

According to him, the medical facility will serve naval personnel and their dependants, while also supporting healthcare delivery within the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring communities.

As part of the welfare initiatives, the Naval Chief also commissioned eight blocks of 16 two-bedroom apartments at the Navy Quarters in Galadimawa, alongside a 48-room accommodation block for junior ratings at Navy Town, Asokoro.

Abbas disclosed that the 48-room accommodation project had remained abandoned for more than five years before it was revived and completed under the current naval administration.

He added that other completed projects included the electrification of 10 accommodation blocks, the installation of a new water reticulation system, road networks and other supporting infrastructure within Navy Town, Asokoro.

The Naval Chief stressed that the service would continue efforts to complete abandoned projects across its formations to prevent waste of public resources and improve the welfare of personnel.

He also urged beneficiaries and facility managers to ensure proper maintenance of the infrastructure and embrace prudent electricity consumption habits.

Abbas commended the Federal Government for its sustained support to the Navy and praised contractors, engineers and project teams for the successful execution of the projects.
