Keyamo Emerges One of Africa’s Top Aviation Leaders

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has been unveiled as one of Africa’s top aviation leaders.

The unveiling was done during a special session at the IATA Focus Africa Conference organised by the International Air Transport Association in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

IATA’s Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, Kamil Alawadhi, who made the announcement on Wednesday, April 29, cited ongoing reforms, clear policy direction and commitment to global aviation standards as the basis for the recognition.

Alawadhi highlighted Nigeria’s implementation of the Cape Town Convention and IDERA framework, as well as the country’s remarkable 91.4 per cent score in International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) safety oversight, which places Nigeria among the leading aviation countries in Africa.

Apart from Keyamo, other African aviation leaders in the top four named by IATA are Teresia Mbaika Malokwe, Principal Secretary, State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Kenya; Poppy Khosa, Director of Civil Aviation/CEO, South African Civil Aviation Authority; and Mesfin Tasew, Group Chief Executive Officer, Ethiopian Airlines.
