The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Zuru, has died after an illness.
Zuru, who represented Zuru constituency and was a prominent figure in the Zuru Emirate, widely known as Lifiddan Zuru, died on Monday evening in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
His death was announced on Tuesday in a statement by Murtala Diri, an official of the Keebbi Assembly on behalf of the assembly.

Diri who shared the statement on his official Facebook page, described his passing as a major loss to his constituents, the state legislature, the political class, and the country at large.
Diri said details of his burial would be communicated later by the family and the Kebbi State Government.
In a separate reaction, Kabir Tukura, who represents Zuru/Fakai/Sakaba/Danko-Wasagu federal constituency in the House of Representatives, described the late speaker as a man of kindness, generosity and humility.
He said Zuru’s death was not only a loss to his family but to the people of Kebbi State, especially those in Zuru, whom he served with dedication.
Tukura also extended condolences to the family and people of the state, describing the deceased as a loyal son of the soil.
