Former Kano State governor and ex-national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has expressed displeasure over comments allegedly made by the leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in which he reportedly described Ganduje as an enemy.
The reaction comes amid reports that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has resolved to return to the APC, a development considered politically significant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aide speaks on Ganduje’s position
Speaking on Ganduje’s behalf on Monday, January 12, the Director-General of the National Productivity Centre, Dr Baffa Babba Dan’agundi, said the former governor viewed the alleged remarks as inappropriate, especially at a time of political realignments in the state.

Dan’agundi said Ganduje believed the statement was unnecessary and capable of undermining ongoing efforts to foster unity and stability in Kano State.
According to Dan’agundi, Ganduje emphasised the need for peace and cooperation, particularly as the APC prepares to welcome Governor Yusuf back into its fold.
He warned that divisive statements could further deepen political tensions at a critical period.
APC welcomes reported return of Governor Yusuf
Reacting to reports of Governor Yusuf’s decision to rejoin the APC, Dan’agundi described the development as a source of excitement among party leaders and supporters across the state.
He said APC stakeholders were pleased and ready to work closely with the governor to advance the state’s development agenda.
Formal reception plans underway
Dan’agundi disclosed that consultations were ongoing to formally receive Governor Yusuf into the APC.

He explained that final arrangements had been delayed due to the Umrah pilgrimage of the Kano State APC chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, and Ganduje’s temporary absence from the country.
He added that a meeting would be convened with Governor Yusuf and his team once key party leaders return to conclude the process.
The development is expected to heighten political manoeuvring in Kano State as political parties reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid renewed rivalry between leading political figures in the state.
