American online sensation Darren Jason Watkins Jr., known globally as iShowSpeed, celebrated his 21st birthday in Lagos on January 21, 2026, by live streaming his first full day in Nigeria.
The YouTube and Twitch star’s arrival was part of his ambitious “Speed Does Africa” tour, a 28-day, 20-country journey that began in Angola on December 29, 2025.
Almost immediately upon arriving, Speed broadcast live from the sunroof of his moving convoy, clad in a Nigerian football jersey. Hundreds of fans poured from streets and markets, sprinting alongside the vehicle, filming, shouting greetings, and demanding interactions.
Security intervened as crowds pressed dangerously close. Speed was escorted into a shop for safety, while local “area boys” demanded payments to allow filming.
