“I’m Too Popular to Be Afraid,” Adeleke Confident of Winning Osun

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has expressed confidence that he will secure a second term in the 2026 governorship election, citing his administration’s achievements and popularity across the state.
Adeleke spoke with journalists in Abuja shortly after appearing before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Screening Committee.
“I’m so confident I’m going to win,” he declared. “If I could defeat an incumbent before, and now that I’m the sitting governor, it’s unprecedented what we’ve achieved in just two years. Nobody can beat us in Osun.”
‘I’m Too Popular to Be Afraid’
The governor dismissed fears that federal influence could affect the poll, saying his administration’s record and his connection with the people would secure him victory.
“How can I be scared? I’m too popular! Anywhere I go, people love me and chant ‘Imole’,” Adeleke said.
He added that his goodwill extends beyond his party. “Even among APC members, I have friends. When they hold events, I attend, and they welcome me warmly. If you’re performing well, you have nothing to fear because your people will stand by you.”

Adeleke also expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu would allow a free, fair, and credible election in Osun.
“I believe President Tinubu will not interfere in the process. He will ensure that the people’s will prevails,” he said.
Screening Committee Satisfied with Adeleke’s Credentials
Chairman of the PDP Governorship Screening Committee for Osun, Adebayo Adepoju, described the exercise as smooth and transparent.
“We examined all his documents before he arrived and found everything in order,” Adepoju said. “His nomination forms were endorsed by both prominent figures and grassroots members of the party in Osun, which shows he enjoys widespread acceptance.”
He added that the committee verified Adeleke’s credentials, including academic and supporting documents, and found them satisfactory.
“When he appeared before us, his responses matched the information he had submitted,” Adepoju said, adding that more aspirants were expected to appear before the panel.
He noted that the committee would submit its final report to the party at the conclusion of the screening exercise.
