A devastating fire broke out around 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Damboa Motor Park in Maiduguri, Borno State, gutting six shops and destroying goods and property estimated at N4.95 million.
The affected shops included a POS centre, barbershop, cosmetics outlet, shoe cobbler’s stand, and a motor spare parts store. The fire left local business owners counting painful losses in an already tough economy.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, those impacted are Nura Ahmad (POS operator), Yakubu Musa (barber), Usman Salisu (shoe cobbler), Musa Hamza (cosmetics dealer) and Ibrahim Ali (motor spare parts seller)
Faulty Wiring Suspected
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been triggered by an electrical fault. Authorities are continuing to probe the incident to determine the exact cause.
Operatives from the Federal and State Fire Services acted quickly to contain the blaze, while police officers secured the area to prevent looting and ensure public safety.
