The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state.
His confirmation followed a screening exercise conducted during plenary presided over by Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
Presenting the committee’s report, Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello, who chaired the ad hoc panel, said the nomination came after the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
He explained that the exercise was carried out in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the Assembly to approve a replacement in the event of a vacancy.

According to the committee, Garo was thoroughly screened and responded to questions on his academic background, work experience, governance outlook, and plans for the state. His credentials were also verified.
The panel noted that he demonstrated a clear understanding of the responsibilities of the office and outlined his intention to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.
Following the presentation, the House adopted the committee’s recommendation, leading to his confirmation as Deputy Governor.
Garo’s predecessor, Gwarzo, resigned on March 27, 2026, amid a political feud with the State Assembly, which had leveled allegations against him.
In his resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, Gwarzo said the decision was reached “after careful consultations and deep reflection” of his current experience.
He said the decision is voluntary and taken in line with his commitment to peace, stability and overall interest of the state, adding that it “should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing.”
Gwarzo cited a desire to prevent distractions and allow the government to function effectively.
