ASR-NCS Hospital Records Major Medical Breakthrough with First Caesarean Section

The Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR) Nigeria Customs Service Hospital in Bauchi has recorded a major breakthrough in its healthcare services following the successful conduct of its first elective Caesarean section, a development being described as a significant milestone in the hospital’s medical history.

The historic surgery, carried out on May 17, 2026, marks a new phase in the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised maternal and surgical healthcare services to personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service and members of the public.

The operation was performed by a medical team led by the Medical Officer Superintendent of Customs, Dr. Nantim Shedum, under the supervision of the Zonal Medical Officer, Zone D, and Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Dr. Sanusi Garba, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.

Speaking on the successful procedure, Dr. Garba described the operation as a major achievement that reflects the hospital’s growing competence in handling advanced medical and surgical procedures.

He noted that the feat demonstrates the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to strengthening healthcare delivery within its formations while also extending quality medical services to surrounding communities.

According to him, the hospital remains focused on providing efficient, affordable and accessible healthcare services to officers, men of the Service and the general public.

Commitment to Quality Healthcare

Dr. Garba further commended the dedication and professionalism of the medical personnel involved in the surgery, stressing that the achievement would boost confidence in the hospital’s expanding medical capabilities.

The Zonal Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Chukwudi Ogbonna, also praised the medical team for what he described as an outstanding display of professionalism and teamwork.

He stated that the successful Caesarean section represents a significant step forward in healthcare delivery within the zone and expressed optimism that the hospital would continue to record greater milestones in specialised medical care.

Ogbonna added that the achievement aligns with ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Customs Service management to improve staff welfare through enhanced healthcare infrastructure and services.

Meanwhile, the father of the newborn expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs and the management of the Service for their investment in affordable and quality healthcare.
