Alleged Visa Fraud: Immigration CG Nandap Not Under Investigation - EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is not under investigation over alleged visa racketeering.

The clarification followed media reports linking the Immigration chief to an ongoing probe into alleged visa fraud involving some officers of the Service.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC described the reports as inaccurate and categorically ruled out any case against the NIS Comptroller-General.

“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG,” the anti-graft agency said.

The EFCC stressed that its ongoing investigation is focused on some immigration officers accused of alleged fraudulent practices.

Cases already before Federal High Court

According to the Commission, criminal proceedings over alleged visa fraud are already pending against some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service at the Federal High Court.

“There are subsisting cases of alleged visa fraud against some immigration officers at the Federal High Court,” the statement said.

The anti-graft agency added that investigations are still ongoing and could lead to the arraignment of more NIS officers.

“Further investigations are ongoing with the possibility that more NIS officers could be arraigned for alleged fraudulent practices in the near future,” it added.

The EFCC reiterated that the ongoing investigation does not in any way involve the Comptroller-General of Immigration.

It also urged media organisations to seek clarification from the Commission before publishing reports on its activities, warning that failure to do so could lead to the misrepresentation of facts.

“The media is enjoined to always seek clarifications on the activities of the EFCC to avoid misrepresentation of facts,” the statement added.
