The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said newly elected state executives and other party officers will not assume office until the expiration of the tenure of current officeholders and their formal inauguration.
The party fixed the inauguration of the newly elected executives on May 12.
In a statement issued on Friday, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, said all existing executives remain the recognised officers of the party until the transition process is completed.
He cautioned newly elected officials, particularly at the state level, against taking any action that could violate the party’s constitutional provisions or create confusion within its structure.
“All newly elected executives are advised to desist from any conduct or representation that may contravene this directive,” the statement said.

Abdullahi added that the party remains committed to orderliness, discipline and strict adherence to its constitution and democratic processes.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the party, Senator David Mark, described the recent national convention as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
Speaking at the convention in Abuja on Tuesday, the former Senate President said the event reflected the resilience of opposition politics and a collective determination to uphold democratic values.
He said the significance of the gathering lies in what it represents rather than the personalities in attendance, adding that it underscores the resolve to sustain democracy in the country.
