The African Action Congress (AAC) has adopted Omoyele Sowore as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The decision was announced on Monday by the chairman of the election committee, Kayode Babayemi during the party’s presidential primary in Abuja.
Babayemi said the adoption reflected the party’s confidence in Sowore’s leadership and long-standing commitment to democratic activism.
“I declare Omoyele Sowore as the consensus presidential candidate of the African Action Congress,” he said.
He added that the party appreciated members and supporters who participated in the exercise, describing their turnout as a show of solidarity with AAC’s vision.
According to him, Sowore remained the party’s consensus choice due to his consistency in political activism and ideological commitment.
Sowore Outlines Vision, Dismisses Coalition Talks
In his acceptance speech, Sowore described AAC as a credible opposition platform and the only alternative to Nigeria’s mainstream political parties.
He said the party had survived political pressure and remained independent of godfather influence and entrenched political interests.
Sowore referenced his 2019 “RevolutionNow” movement, saying it reflected AAC’s long-standing push for political change.
He also dismissed suggestions that the party was seeking a coalition with established political groups, insisting AAC itself represented a coalition for change.
“We are the coalition,” he said.
Sowore further stated that the party was made up of “hardworking Nigerians” and not associated with corruption or insecurity.
He criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of failing Nigerians and worsening national challenges.

He also questioned public support for major political parties, describing them as responsible for the country’s problems.
Sowore urged international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund, to reconsider lending to Nigerian political leaders, saying his administration would not honour such debts if elected.
The AAC presidential ticket marks the second time Sowore has been adopted as the party’s presidential candidate.
In the 2019 general election, he emerged as the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential flagbearer after winning the party’s primary and went on to contest the presidency under the platform, launching his “RevolutionNow” campaign.
